Conservation groups join forces again at Ceredigion's second biodiversity week.
10th of June 2006

The aim of Biodiversity Week is to raise awareness about the diversity and variety of life on earth. It is a national event that happens all across the UK.

In Ceredigion this year different conservation organizations joined forces at the Aberystwyth Agricultural show to raise awareness about water habitats and the creatures that rely on them: from water voles and sea lampreys to birds, otters and dolphins.

Our slogan:

“Recipe for life:
just add water!”

The stand saw participation from the Countryside Council for Wales (CCW), the Sea Watch Foundation, the Wildlife Trust and the Pen Llyn a’r Sarnau and the Cardigan Bay SAC's officers.

One of the highlights of the stand was a model making competition organized by the Sea Watch Foundation in conjunction with local schools. Kids from Pontrhydfendigaid and Llanllwchaeron primary schools researched interesting facts about an animal of their choice that lives in a water habitat and then made a model of it. Visitors to the show could then come and vote for their favourite model at the stand.

Those that visited the biodiversity stand also had an opportunity to make a dragonfly badge...

...make small wetland creature paper models...

...as well as engage in a marine animals bone guessing game and a cartoon code of conduct puzzle on how to approach wildlife at sea.

The winners walked away with biodiversity T-shirts, a Pen Llyn a’r Sarnau poster and a free CCW seashore guide.

For those that missed the event: don’t despair. The organizations shall be reuniting for another Biodiversity stand at the Cardigan River and Food Festival on the 14th of August.

We look forward to seeing you there!

The above event was organised by Ceredigion's LBAP
(Local Biodiversity Action Plan) Partnership.
