The draft SAC management
plan and summary version, ‘Tir a Môr’, was circulated
for consultation in December 1999. Public workshops to discuss
the plan were held in Cardigan and Aberaeron in February 2000.
All comments received during the 3 month long consultation were
carefully considered by the relevant authorities and have been
compiled into a report that will be circulated with the finalised
plan.
The Plan:
-
Is based upon the current state of knowledge
about the bottlenose dolphins and their relationship with
the environment
-
Identifies gaps in knowledge, how they
will be addressed and any resource requirements
-
Is a working document for use by the authorities
responsible for managing the cSAC, and others
-
Describes a means of communication between
the authorities with responsibility for preparing it, and
the wider constituency of interested parties
-
Identifies and attributes the actions required
to conserve the bottlenose dolphins in Cardigan Bay
-
Will be kept under review

Management Plan Review new
As a result of the 'moderation' process, new
features have been included as part of the SAC.
As for the Bottlenose dolphins, each feature will require
specific management to ensure the conservation objectives
for each are met. At present the Countryside
Council for Wales, as the advisor on nature conservation
to the National Assembly for Wales, are considering the detail
of conservation objectives for each of the new features.
This will be followed by a full review of the Cardigan Bay
SAC Management Plan. For a time table of this procedure click here.
The Cardigan Bay SAC is one of a number of
demonstration projects for marine SACs in the UK and the preparation
of the Management Plan was supported under the EU LIFE programme. |
